What we do?

We are focused on the study of microorganisms that can be important for health, either if they are foe or friend. To achieve this, we generate high-throughput sequencing data and we apply and develop bioinformatic tools that we couple with traditional microbiology approaches. Our results help to understand how microbes acquire resistance to antibiotics, adapt to their hosts and transmit between them and the environment. Our work contributes to develop new diagnostic tools and to understand the epidemiology of infections, to identify microbial biomarkers for different diseases and to guide the development of new therapies based on microbiome-oriented research.
